Position Summary:

The ideal candidate would have over 10 years of trial experience and a book of business of at least $600,000. The trial Attorney's job description involves representing clients in court, conducting legal research, preparing and filing legal documents, and developing strategies for resolving legal disputes. This person is responsible for presenting evidence, examining witnesses, and making persuasive arguments to advocate for their clients' positions. This trial attorney must have a strong understanding of legal procedures, laws, and precedents relevant to their cases. 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Courtroom Representation:  Representing clients in court proceedings, including trials, hearings, and other legal events. 
  • Legal Research and Analysis:  Conducting thorough legal research and analysis to support their cases. This is typically performed by associates or paralegals, but the attorney should know how to perform legal research. 
  • Document Preparation:  Preparing and filing legal documents such as motions, pleadings, and briefs. 
  • Discovery:  Managing written discovery, including taking and defending depositions. 
  • Strategy Development:  Developing and implementing trial and pre-trial strategies. 
  • Negotiation and Settlement:  Negotiating settlements and agreements on behalf of clients. 
  • Client Communication:  Providing legal advice to clients and keeping them informed about the progress of their cases. 
  • Witness Examination:  Examining and cross-examining witnesses in court. 
  • Persuasive Advocacy:  Making persuasive arguments to juries and judges to support their client's position. 
  • Staying Current:  Keeping up-to-date with changes in the law and legal procedures. 

Skills and Qualifications:

 

  • State Bar Admission:  Passing the bar exam and being admitted to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction. 
  • Strong Communication Skills:  Excellent written and oral communication skills are crucial for effective advocacy. 
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:  The ability to analyze complex legal issues and develop effective strategies. 
  • Organizational Skills:  Strong organizational skills are needed to manage multiple cases and deadlines. 
  • Persuasion and Advocacy Skills:  The ability to persuade juries and judges with compelling arguments. 
  • Trial Experience:  Experience in litigating cases, including picking a jury, objecting to evidence, taking depositions and examining witnesses.
