We are seeking a Technical Director to lead all aspects of live event production in support of our programming, from ideation and planning, to execution, to post-event wrap. The ideal candidate will have a track record of managing consumer-facing live streamed events and/or broadcasts, including all technical, logistical, staffing, and more to create the highest quality product. They will understand end-to-end production workflows, technical setups (A/V, staging, lighting, etc.) and how to bring talent-led content to life to a live audience. They should have an extremely high attention to detail, be well organized, a team leader, and a very effective collaborator and communicator. Previous experience in sports, including at major tentpole events, is preferred.

What You’ll Do:

  • Assess and determine all technical requirements for live and remote broadcasts
  • Lead all phases of live event technical production; from pre-event planning to on-site execution through post-event breakdown
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, and Legal teams to ensure event is executed according to plan
  • Lead the development and build of all technical operations, including scenic, staging, audio, video, lighting and rigging
  • Assist in all aspects of live production, including but not limited to: audio engineering, technical directing, and camera operations
  • Develop technical designs and engineering plans, providing teams with viable solutions to any potential challenges
  • Create and maintain vendor relationships; coordinate with all vendors, including third-party specialists and freelancers
  • Provide recommendations to senior leadership on appropriate internal resources for events, including equipment and personnel
  • Conduct location scouts, provide recommendations to senior leadership on locations and potential buildout
  • Build and execute SOPs; evolve plans to ensure better quality products and more efficient workflows
  • Collaborate with leadership and finance to properly budget events; work within budgetary guidelines
  • Ensure event setups are clean, organized, and all equipment remains in proper working condition
  • Coordinate with production teams and assist in executing in-studio recordings
  • Assist in talent remote technical setups; coordinate with third-party production studios on remote recordings
  • Manage and update equipment inventory
  • Travel required up to 50%; must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required

Who You Are:

  • 5+ years of event technical operations experience in the remote broadcast or live event space
  • 3+ years in a manager position
  • Extensive knowledge in event staging, A/V, lighting, live stream productions, and rigging
  • Extremely well organized, able to oversee multiple concurrent projects at various stages
  • An expert in all A/V technical equipment, hardware, and software
  • Project management skills, including budgeting, timeline creation, and vendor oversight
  • General knowledge of sports and live events focused around talent-led content
  • A jack-of-all-trades who can step into any role in a live production event to ensure a smooth execution
  • Someone who strives to create the best possible product for the audience and doesn’t settle for mediocre
  • A calm leader who can direct personnel to maximize team skillsets, efficiencies, and output
  • Work well under pressure in fast-paced, complex technical environments
  • Knowledge of MS Office programs, including Excel and PowerPoint

The base salary compensation range for this role is $80,000 to $100,000. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidates’ relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. Full time positions are eligible for benefits that include participation in a retirement plan, life and disability insurance, health, dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts, sick leave, vacation time, personal time, parental leave and employee stock purchase plan.
