Prepare beverages and/or serve food for the customer in a prompt and courteous manner while maintaining a high level of quality and consistency. Duties and responsibilities include greeting guests pleasantly as they approach the bar; promoting house drinks and utilizing up-selling skills to maximize revenues; preparing beverages requested by customers adhering to established pouring standards and drink recipes; coordinating food service with restaurant(s) for bar/lounge guests if applicable; monitoring guest behavior and alcohol consumption to determine when alcohol service should cease; notifying management of incidents involving excessive alcohol consumption or impaired condition of customers; checking identification when age is questionable; alerting management of any service and/or safety issues; making appropriate service recovery gestures to ensure guest satisfaction; setting up bar including liquor, mixers, ice, garnishes, glassware and supplies; performing pre- and post-shift side-work; requisitioning necessary supplies; inventorying unused liquor and beverages; ensuring liquor is properly secured; handling bartender’s bank, receiving cash and credit payments, giving accurate change and balancing cash drawer; inspecting bar daily for cleanliness and equipment operation; sweeping and mopping bar floor after shift; wiping down counters, equipment, stools, chairs, tables, and other areas; promoting teamwork and quality service through communication and coordination with other departments; performing other duties as assigned. Qualifications include basic reading, writing, and math skills; knowledge of liquor brands, beer, wine, champagne, non-alcoholic beverages, designated glassware, preparation methods and garnishments; formal bartending training preferred; must meet state legal age requirements; must speak fluent English. Physical requirements include handling, carrying or lifting items up to 50 pounds, moving about bar/lounge/kitchen, bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting. Communication skills are important for interaction with guests and staff. Alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card required by local or state government agency. May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays. Work area includes bar, lounge area, kitchen and other F&B areas.
